Jillian Whitney Baylor Ostara Van Boven
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved child, Jillian Whitney Baylor Ostara Van Boven, who was tragically taken from us on Aug. 9, 2024, at the vernal age of 18. Alongside her love, Taylor Dawson, Jillian Whitney’s life was stolen by the hands of another. Her loss has been a complete shock, and her loved ones are profoundly saddened.
Born on March 2, 2006, Jillian Whitney lived a life filled with tremendous passion and empathy toward others, and was a great example of resiliency. She brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives with her loyal heart, radiant smile, humorous personality, and infinite curiosity. She left an indelible mark on the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jilly was an alumnus of NWCTA, Skagit Academy, and Greenwood Tree, located in the Skagit Valley of Washington. With plans to study forensics after a gap year of traveling with family, Jilly desired to be of service to the greater good. Wise beyond her years, she was an example of perseverance, intellect, respect, and justice, all values that were central to her character.
She is survived by her parents, GuruBani Whitney Young (John F. Boyd IV) and Matthew Van Boven, whose hearts will be eternally enriched by the beauty of Jilly’s presence. Her departure leaves an unfillable void, yet they find comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared. Jillian Whitney is well beloved and greatly missed by her family. Her kinship includes siblings: Isaac, Mary, Jacob, Harmony, and Kaiah. She is the granddaughter of Dave and Marjorie Van Boven, and Janis Young Buckner (William Buckner (†), Richard Tiller (†)). Niece of Brent Buckner (Holly), Misty Dawn McBride, Rachel Van Boven, Sarajoy Van Boven, Jeremy Robinson, and Sus Arnhart. She leaves behind her faithful dog, Bridget, who never left her side. She is forever cherished by her extended family, friends, and community members. The soulful melody she brought into this world continues to reverberate even as she is no longer on the physical plane.
A lover of animals and nature, books that delve into spiritual enlightenment and esotericism, music of all genres, as well as ancient languages, Jilly found beauty in the deeper meaning to life and encouraged us all to do the same. In her memory, the family asks that you go out and do something that awakens your soul, and ask the questions of where do we come from and what is possible?
Jilly will evermore reside in our hearts, continuing to inspire and guide us. As we grapple with the loss of her physical presence, we find solace in knowing that her spirit lives on through the love and wisdom she instilled in us. We invite all who cherished Jillian Whitney, to join us in a ceremony of remembrance on Sept. 21, 2024, at 4 p.m., at The Norris Farmstead, in Rockport, Washington, where we will join in community to share stories, laughter, and tears.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Skagit Animals In Need (S.A.I.N.) in memory of Jillian Whitney, a cause deeply important to her, a testament to the boundless love she had for the care of those who deserved a better life.
